What is Nebula ?
A nebula is a cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and elements like iron, copper and their ionized vapors present in interstellar space.
How a Nebula is formed ?
In easy words nebula is remnant of stars after super nova and hyper nova explosions. It mainly comprises of ionized gases.
Why Nebula looks colorful ?
In most of the cases nebulae consists of 70-95 % ionized gases. And because of presence of ionized gases they seems to be colorful (transition of electrons takes place), for example due to presence of oxygen gas it look green.
How big is a Nebula ?
It sizes from 1AU to 10AU. Just one portion size of earth would weight only few kilograms.
Does Nebulae has any temperature ?
The temperature of nebula vary from 10000 degrees Celsius to 200000 degrees Celsius.
How many kinds of nebula are there ?
There are five types - planetary nebulae , emission nebulae , reflection nebulae , dark nebulae and supernova remnants.
Diffuse Nebula - Most of the nebula are diffuse nebula with no well defined boundaries. It is divided into three subcategories:-
Emission Nebula:- Nebula which emits radiation due transition of electrons in presence of ionized gases and cosmic radiations.
Reflection Nebula:- They are visible due to light they reflect. They reflect light coming from nearby and host star.
Dark Nebula:- They acts like barrier to light coming from any star. It either reflects it or absorb. So , they seems to be black. Its presence is detected by infrared and radio telescopes.
Planetary Nebula:- It is formed by small stellar stars in which outer shell of star is expelled out due to strong solar winds and core remains as dwarf star. Dwarf star heats up the near by gases to ionized one. It is also known as Emission Nebula.
